The Peasant’s Wise Daughter is a Brothers Grimm story about a clever young woman whose intelligence changes her life. When her poor father finds a golden object in a field, she correctly predicts that presenting it to the king will bring trouble. Her father ignores the warning and is imprisoned. To free him, the daughter must solve a difficult riddle and appear before the king in a way that is neither dressed nor undressed, neither walking nor riding, and neither on nor off the road. The king is impressed by her wisdom, but another test awaits her later. Can intelligence protect her when power and love come into conflict?
