La esposa de un hombre rico cayó gravemente enferma, y cuando sintió que su fin estaba cerca, llamó a su única hija junto a su cama. "Querida niña", le dijo en voz baja, "sé siempre buena y amable, y Dios te ayudará. Yo te miraré desde el cielo y estaré cerca de ti." Después cerró los ojos y murió. Cada día la niña iba a la tumba de su madre y lloraba, pero cumplió su promesa: siguió siendo buena y amable con todos. Llegó el invierno, y la nieve extendió una manta blanca sobre la tumba. En primavera el sol derritió la nieve, y las flores volvieron al jardín. La niña seguía sintiendo una gran tristeza por su madre. Pero aquellas palabras suaves se quedaron con ella como una pequeña luz cálida.

Una niña tiene una madre enferma. La madre dice: "Sé buena, hija mía." Después la madre muere.
