About this story

In the beginning, the earth is dark, empty and without form. Over six days, God creates light, the sky, the land, the seas, plants, the sun, the moon, the stars and every kind of living creature. Humanity is created in God’s image and given responsibility over the earth. On the seventh day, God rests from the work of creation. The Creation of the World opens the Book of Genesis and the Bible itself, presenting a powerful account of how the universe, life and humanity began. Its sequence of seven days has influenced religion, literature, art and culture for centuries.

Am Anfang hat Gott Himmel und Erde gemacht. Die Erde war leer und dunkel. Über dem Wasser war Finsternis, und Gottes Geist war über dem Wasser. Gott hat gesagt: „Es soll Licht werden.“ Dann war Licht da. Gott hat das Licht gesehen, und es war gut. Gott hat das Licht von der Finsternis getrennt. Das Licht hat Gott „Tag“ genannt, und die Finsternis hat er „Nacht“ genannt. Es ist Abend geworden und es ist Morgen geworden. Das war der erste Tag.

Am Anfang macht Gott Himmel und Erde. Die Erde ist leer und dunkel. Über dem Wasser ist Finsternis. Gottes Geist ist über dem Wasser. Gott sagt: „Es wird Licht.“ Dann ist Licht da. Gott sieht das Licht. Es ist gut. Gott trennt das Licht von der Finsternis. Gott nennt das Licht „Tag“. Die Finsternis nennt Gott „Nacht“. Dann wird es Abend und dann Morgen. Das ist der erste Tag.
