About this story

In the beginning, the earth is dark, empty and without form. Over six days, God creates light, the sky, the land, the seas, plants, the sun, the moon, the stars and every kind of living creature. Humanity is created in God’s image and given responsibility over the earth. On the seventh day, God rests from the work of creation. The Creation of the World opens the Book of Genesis and the Bible itself, presenting a powerful account of how the universe, life and humanity began. Its sequence of seven days has influenced religion, literature, art and culture for centuries.

Au commencement, Dieu a créé le ciel et la terre. La terre était encore informe et vide, et les ténèbres couvraient l’abîme. L’Esprit de Dieu planait au-dessus des eaux. Alors Dieu a dit : « Que la lumière soit. » Et la lumière a été. Dieu a vu la lumière, et il a vu qu’elle était bonne. Il a séparé la lumière des ténèbres. Il a appelé la lumière « jour », et les ténèbres, il les a appelées « nuit ». Il y a eu un soir, puis un matin : ce fut le premier jour.

Au commencement, Dieu crée le ciel et la terre. La terre est vide et sans forme. Il y a de l’eau partout. Il y a aussi les ténèbres. L’Esprit de Dieu est au-dessus des eaux. Dieu dit : « Que la lumière soit. » Alors, la lumière est là. Dieu voit que la lumière est bonne. Dieu sépare la lumière des ténèbres. Dieu appelle la lumière « jour ». Il appelle les ténèbres « nuit ». Il y a un soir et un matin. C’est le premier jour.
