About this story
God creates Adam from the earth and places him in the Garden of Eden, where he is joined by Eve. They may enjoy everything in the garden except the fruit of one forbidden tree. When a cunning serpent questions God’s command, Eve and Adam make a choice that changes their lives forever. Their disobedience brings shame, judgment and exile from Eden. Adam and Eve is the foundational biblical story of humanity’s beginning, exploring innocence, temptation, freedom and consequence. It also introduces some of the Bible’s most enduring images, including the forbidden fruit, the serpent and the lost paradise.
