About this story
Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam and Eve, bring offerings to God. When Abel’s offering is accepted but Cain’s is not, Cain becomes angry and jealous. Despite being warned to control his resentment, he leads his brother into a field and kills him. God confronts Cain and asks where Abel is, prompting one of the Bible’s most famous questions. Cain and Abel is a dark and powerful story about jealousy, responsibility, violence and punishment. It presents the Bible’s first murder and shows how uncontrolled anger destroys both its victim and the person who gives in to it.
