About this story

Macbeth is a respected Scottish general until three mysterious witches tell him that he is destined to become king. When part of their prophecy quickly comes true, Macbeth begins imagining the power that could be his. Encouraged by his ambitious wife, he murders King Duncan and takes the crown. But becoming king brings Macbeth no peace. Fearful of losing his position, he orders more killings and becomes increasingly cruel, while Lady Macbeth is tormented by guilt. As enemies gather against him, Macbeth places his confidence in the witches’ strange promises. Have they revealed his destiny or deliberately led him toward destruction?
