About this story

The Israelites gather at the foot of Mount Sinai while thunder, lightning, smoke and the sound of a trumpet cover the mountain. Moses climbs toward God as the people wait below in fear. God then gives the commandments that will define the people’s responsibilities toward God and one another, including laws against murder, theft, adultery and false testimony. Moses and the Ten Commandments is a foundational Bible story about law, morality, worship and covenant. Its central commandments have had an enormous influence on religious belief, ethical thought and legal traditions throughout the world.
