About this story

The angel Gabriel tells Mary that she will give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. When Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem, Jesus is born and placed in a feeding trough because no proper room is available. Angels announce his birth to shepherds, while wise men from the east follow a star to find him. Their arrival alarms King Herod, forcing the family to flee into Egypt before eventually settling in Nazareth. The Birth of Jesus brings together the central events of the Nativity story, including Mary, Joseph, Bethlehem, the manger, the shepherds, the wise men and the star.

En el sexto mes, Dios mandó al ángel Gabriel a una ciudad de Galilea que se llamaba Nazaret. Gabriel fue a una joven virgen que estaba comprometida para casarse con José, un hombre de la familia de David. La joven se llamaba María. Cuando el ángel entró donde estaba María, le dijo: «¡Alégrate! Dios te ha favorecido. El Señor está contigo». María se asustó mucho por esas palabras y pensaba qué quería decir ese saludo. Entonces el ángel le dijo: «No tengas miedo, María, porque Dios te ha mostrado su favor. Vas a quedar embarazada y vas a tener un hijo, y le vas a poner por nombre Jesús. Él va a ser grande y lo van a llamar Hijo del Altísimo. El Señor Dios le va a dar el trono de David, su antepasado, y va a reinar para siempre sobre la casa de Jacob. Su reino no va a tener fin». María le preguntó al ángel: «¿Cómo va a pasar eso, si soy virgen?».

En el sexto mes, Dios manda al ángel Gabriel a Nazaret, una ciudad de Galilea. Gabriel va a una joven virgen. Ella va a casarse con José, de la familia de David. La joven se llama María. El ángel entra y le dice: «¡Alégrate! El Señor está contigo. Tú eres muy bendecida entre las mujeres». María se asusta mucho. Ella piensa: «¿Qué saludo es este?» El ángel le dice: «No tengas miedo, María. Dios está contigo. Vas a tener un hijo y le vas a poner Jesús. Él va a ser grande. Lo van a llamar Hijo del Altísimo. Dios le va a dar el trono de David. Él va a reinar para siempre. Su reino no va a terminar». María le dice al ángel: «¿Cómo va a ser esto? Yo soy virgen».
