About this story

A man travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho is attacked by robbers, stripped of his possessions and left beside the road. A priest sees the injured traveller but passes without helping. A Levite does the same. Finally, a Samaritan stops, treats the man’s wounds, carries him to an inn and pays for his care. Jesus tells the parable after being asked what it means to love one’s neighbour. The Good Samaritan is one of the Bible’s best-known parables, teaching that genuine compassion crosses social, religious and cultural boundaries and must be demonstrated through action.

Entonces, un hombre que conoce la ley se levanta. Él quiere poner a prueba a Jesús. Le dice: «Maestro, ¿qué hago para tener vida eterna?». Jesús le dice: «¿Qué dice la ley? ¿Cómo la entiendes?». El hombre responde: «Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con todas tus fuerzas y con toda tu mente. Y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo». Jesús le dice: «Tu respuesta está bien. Haz eso y vas a vivir». Pero el hombre quiere mostrar que tiene razón. Entonces le pregunta a Jesús: «¿Y quién es mi prójimo?».
